Democrat 8/17-20/20
Since 1932 the American people have turned out a sitting president only twice. The first, in 1980, Jimmy Carter was defeated by Ronald Reagan. The second, in 1992, was George HW Bush defeated by Bill Clinton. No matter what your opinion is of either Reagan and Clinton, personally or politically, they succeeded with an uplifting vision of the future. In Reagan’s case it was “the shining city on the hill”. For Clinton it was “the man from Hope”. To be sure both were critical of their opponents’ policies, but their overarching message was, “change is right around the corner”. There was a positivity in the substance, and to everything connected with campaign. In Clinton’s case even the choice the campaign theme song, “Don’t Stop” by Fleetwood Mac, spoke to better times tomorrow. As we can see from history, it is incredibly hard to unseat an incumbent president, vision and optimism are then omnipotent.
The democrats are now trying to unseat Donald Trump with a vision of darkness, not of hope. This message of doom and gloom has two components, one “Trump is Evil”, “Orange Man Bad”, and two, please, please, please, oh please, come out and vote. This indicates that they understand that their candidate Joe Biden has no real connection with the people, hence no enthusiasm. Their own internal polling shows that over fifty percent of their voters are voting against Trump, not for Biden. This does not bode well for the get out the vote portion of the campaign. They only briefly touch on Biden’s accomplishments, when Barak Obama gave him essentially ceremonial positions in his administration. Let’s see, he was in charge of, spending the 2009 stimulus money on “shovel ready jobs”, there were none. Another was Ebola response in this country between 2014-2016. There were eleven cases, I’m thinking Joe found that taxing, and besides Obama took credit for it anyway. Oh yeah, there’s H1N1 virus that Joe did such a bang-up job on. Notice they didn’t mention that because there were sixty million cases, that’s right sixty million, cases in the US. If that had a more deadly version, we would have easily had two million deaths. They were just plain lucky and nothing else. Other than that, there’s no mention of Biden’s “long list of accomplishments”. Almost fifty years in Washington and all they can say is he’s a nice guy. I wonder why? Could it be that some of what he has said would get him cancelled in this climate, if they were publicized? We’ll talk about that later.
We all understand that political conventions in the time of Covid 19 are going to be nothing like we’ve seen before. Having said that, Democrat National Convention was as poorly produced as anything I’ve seen. I tried to watch but couldn’t stay awake. What a “Snooze Fest”. With all the lefties in Silicon Valley and the major media outlets available to them, they still created a boring convention with terrible ratings. All the speeches were pre-recorded, there was no excitement, no drama. The speakers seemed to be going through the motions. No substance, just the never-ending attacks on Trump, begging for votes, and the occasional mention of Joes’ character. They couldn’t even get the crowd simulation right. When, using Zoom they partially filled the screen with boxes, and put the same faces in multiple boxes. A middle schooler could solve that issue and I’m sure they had a dozen people sitting around ready to cheer on command.
Then there’s the speeches from every heavy hitter in the democrat party, all very dark.
Michelle Obama didn’t even mention Kamala Harris. Why is that? Are, we to believe that Joe Biden didn’t clear his VP choice with the leader their party Barak Obama, and therefore Michelle didn’t know? Or was it that she just didn’t care. Really! Then there’s Michelle’s famous line from the 2016 convention “when they go low, we go high”. That’s been relegated to the trash heap after her speech, and this convention.
Hillary Clinton is still whining about losing the election, she should have won. Saying, don’t let this be a would’ve, should’ve, could’ve election like last time. Implying that it was all about voting, when the would’ve, should’ve, could’ve was really about her campaigning three days a week and not bothering to go to curtain states. She talked about Trump stealing the election and cheating. When she is the one who purchased the dossier, that was ultimately used to try and bring down Trump. More Clinton dirty tricks, and she still lost!
Bernie Sanders talked about how far left Joe Biden come and how wonderful things would be once they instituted their far-left agenda. At this convention you heard no substance, about how much it will cost, and how it will be paid for. There was also the obligatory “Trump is Evil”.
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez had the shortest speech. I wonder why? I thought she was the daring of the left. Well, she did make the most of her time. Let me preface my comment by telling you that the people of Central and South America consider themselves Americans exactly like we do. They take offense when people from the U.S. refer to themselves as Americans. In her speech, she said the benefits of the Green New Deal were for all Americans, not American citizens. This was intentional, with her open borders plan. It is meant for everybody to come here and feed off the largess of this country, as long as it lasts.
Kamala Harris’ speech was once again about how Trump is “destroying everything we care about”. If you vote for us, things will get better. How? What will you do? You intentionally omit any specifics, because all of your proposals Trump is already doing. We just have to rely on your assertion that you are more competent. Well you wouldn’t know that from the way they ran their convention. Their incompetence was on full display. In the end she said in reference to things getting better, “we may not get there”, now, that’s a vision of hope.
In Barak Obama we were treated to a condescending lecture about Trump’s fitness for office while he barely mentioned Joe Biden. Barak did not seem relaxed, not the orator he once was. He then had the chutzpah to call Trump a threat to democracy. This coming from a man whos’ federal agencies spied on this same man’s campaign for president. It would be comical if it were not so terrifying. And the democrats hold him up, as someone to be revered. You can’t make this stuff up.
Biden’s acceptance speech was something to behold. This, he can thank the Republicans for. He didn’t mess it up. All this talk about “Sleepy Joe”, “Dementia Joe”, and “Alzheimer Joe” has set the bar so low that, if he doesn’t drool on himself, it’s a win .The speech was pretty good, if only twenty-five minutes long. Most acceptance speeches are forty-five minutes to hour long. I wonder why? He was ill at ease and awkward. I thought he should be right at home in that empty room. Joe’s comfortable to talking to empty rooms, because he couldn’t fill a Krispy Kreme Donut Shop without a donut give-away happening. We’ve heard incessantly from the media and the democrats that Trump needs to be fact checked. No fact checking occurred at this convention, but I’ll assure you it will happen during the Republican Convention. This leads to the well-deserved accusation of media bias. After the speech Carl Rove destroyed Biden on his Covid assertions. In mid-January he said of the China travel ban “it was hysteria and xenophobic, in early-February his campaign said it was less lethal than SARS, probably not a serious epidemic, in late-February they’re quoted as saying it’s like the flu and it’s going to dissipate with warmer weather, masks are not going to help, in early-March he opposed the European travel ban, saying it was rash. His distortion and outright lies about Trump’s statements on what happened in Charlottesville VA are so glaring as to be obvious to anyone who takes the time look. There are video tapes and timelines, that show Trump was talking about the statue issue not White Supremacist and the KKK. Whom, he has emphatically condemned. Even Chuck Todd of CNN has admitted this, but he says nothing about Joe’s prevarications. Then there’s Biden speaking in a Senate Judiciary Hearing in 1993, where he says that people on both sides of the Confederate flag issue “are fine people”. This you will not hear from the media, but it’s easily found on google. It’s part of the public record on C-SPAN. Biden speech was filled banal platitudes such as “light is stronger than darkest”. His feeble effort to tie Trump to the politics around Covid is amusing, because they started it, from the beginning with the democrats, denounced of the travel ban, on China. They promise only more government spending and even higher deficits. What they didn’t say at their convention is more illuminating, than what they did say. They never mentioned Russia, terrorism, impeachment, taxes, border wall, defund the police, or crime. Homicides are up on average thirty-seven percent in the twenty largest cities. Looting, arson, and street crime are also up, and they wonder why residence are fleeing the cities. Their denial of wide-spread violence is profound. China was mentioned once, and God was only mentioned at the very end of Biden’s speech. This should tell you how tough Biden will be Russia, China, terrorism, and crime. All of which he has said Trump is soft on! No, No, Wait Really! “Soft On.” We are to believe that the Biden/Harris ticket will save us from all these ner’do wells, when they don’t even acknowledge there, existence. Well again I find this Troubling!!
