Finally, the Democratic nominee for President in the 2020 presidential election, former Vice President Joe Biden has chosen a running mate. For months we’ve been hearing in the media the much lauded but thoroughly vapid criteria for his, Vice Presidential pick California Senator Kamala Harris. These are one, a Cervix, two the color of her skin, and three trailing a distant third her qualifications, of which there are very few and none when it comes to foreign policy. Coupled with Joe’s total lack of a grasp on foreign policy this promises to be disastrous. Joe has been wrong on every major foreign policy issue in the last forty years including, but not limited to, the killing Osama Bin Laden the master mind of the 9/11 attacks. When Barak Obama was making his decision on the military operation to take down Bin Laden, Joe Biden voted against the incursion because he considered it too risky. Joe Biden voted for the war in Iraq but then voted against the serge. He tries to be on both sides of every issue, or at least which ever, way the wind blows. He was “for it” before he was “against it”, sound familiar? In the primary campaign he was said to be a moderate, but he has changed his position on almost every major policy. This should have been obvious, but he is weak with no real vision. He has the moral compass of a weather vain. The left euphemistically calls this evolving, while the rest of us call it pandering. What was the term used by the previous administration? Oh yes, it was “Soft Power” that’s it. (No more flexing our muscles, except if you’re weak like Libya. Then you go in bomb the place, depose their despot leader and turn it into a no-mans-land, get the ambassador and three others killed, then walk away) That’s, when we allow all our adversaries Russia, China, and Iran walk all over us, and then we acquiesce to their wishes. This is a foreign policy Joe Biden concurs with, we inform them of our displeasure, they smile, and then go about their business. We’ve done our job because we’ve talked to them about “it”. “Job Well Done.” This is what passes for foreign policy in the democrat party. If Joe Biden is elected, he has said would remove President Trump’s tariffs on China, he would attempt to reenter the treaty with Iran, and Vladmir Putin’s disdain for Biden is just as evident as it was Obama. The resurgence of these three existential threats, which were allowed to run wild in the previous administration, and that have been tamped down in recent years is predicable, and obvious. Biden’s only claim to fame is his longevity in office, and his accomplishments are meager. As Chairmen of the Senate Judiciary Committee he pushed through the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act which only served to incarcerate an inordinately large portion of the black population. This and the character assassination of both Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas in front of his committee are the high points of his chairmanship. The politics of personal destruction are his forte. Joe Biden is not a leader, he’s a good number two, and that unfortunately is all he has to offer.
The freshman Senator from California, whom the media is portraying a pragmatic moderate, is anything but pragmatic or a moderate. It’s almost laughable how the vast majority of the media is using that same term “pragmatic moderate”. It would seem they are trying to obfuscate her true ultra-left positions. CQ Vote Watch a nonpartisan group that scores congressional and senate members on their voting record ranked Harris as the most progressive member of the senate. More progressive than both Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. She is for:
Legalization of all illegal aliens, which you know means the right to vote
Open Borders
Free health care for illegal aliens, how much will this cost given the concept of open borders
Elimination of private health insurance, if you have private health insurance it will be snatched away
She was co-sponsor in the senate of the Green New Deal, which allows for cash payments to people unable or unwilling to work and much more that would destroy our economy
She is against energy independence, and for the elimination of all fossil fuels in the near future. What will that do to prices?
She is for the repeal of the middle-class tax cuts
She is for tax increases
She is for a ban on all “fire-arms” even though it is against the second amendment
She is for packing the Supreme Court if necessary, to achieve her goals
She has called ICE agents the new KKK
When Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Brett Kavanaugh was before the Senate Judiciary Committee for his confirmation hearing and unfounded accusations rape were leveled against him Senator Harris said he should have to prove his innocents. This coming from a former DA and AG of the largest state in the Union. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty. My guess is, that concept only applies when it is convenient, and the “rule of law” is fungible.
In todays, ultra-left leaning Democrat Party, I assume this what passes for moderation. With Biden it is just pandering, but with Harris it’s truly where she stands. In the primary, when she was running for the nomination for president, the democrat party soundly rejected her. She received an underwhelming two percent in the polls and was the first challenger to drop out. Now we are, lead to believe that this is an historic choice. That Harris will bring energy and enthusiasm to a party with no real platform other than “We Hate Trump”. They are hoping that this choice will bring out the black vote, but Harris’s stints as both San Francisco DA and as Attorney General of California present problems for people of color. The long prison terms meted out for non-violent drug use and possession, particularly marijuana is trouble for her. Recently in an interview she laughed about her use of marijuana in her youth. This hypocrisy is especially irritating to many and it would seem that she made her reputation on the backs of people she now professes to champion. I read recently that “hope is not a strategy”.
I have a very good friend who is progressive, very progressive, maybe to the left of the Harris. We have lively discussions and respect him because he actually has facts to support his positions. When asked about Biden’s issue with making women uncomfortable and the accusation of rape, his reply was that Biden wasn’t as bad Trump. Once again, the democrats use moral equivalency to justify their silence, when it comes to their candidate. What happened to “every woman should be heard”. These actions bring a screeching halt to the “Me Too” movement, but the silence from the media, the women’s groups, and the democrat party are in keeping with their past performances.
Crunch-time is upon us and the polls are tightening. What a surprise! Reputations are at stake, so there will be less polls with bogus samplings, such as the PBS/Marist Poll that sampled thirty eight percent non-white voters. When in the last two elections there were only twenty eight percent non-white voters. In CNN’s most recent poll they had the president down by only four point just outside the margin of error, and down by only one point in the swing state polls. Does anybody believe that he actually made up between five and ten points, depending on the poll, in the past month. This is another example of the media trying to shape public opinion to suit their candidate. Here’s another recent poll for you, only forty-five percent of the people think Harris ready to be president. Biden’s proposals on both the pandemic and the economy are regurgitations of Trump’s policies. Be it, the wearing of masks or his buy American, employee American positions, they are nothing new. Never mind that ten days after the first death from the virus Trump stopped flights from China and Biden called him a xenophobe. Shortly thereafter Trump ended flights from Europe and Biden called this action rash. Does that sound like a man who was “on top of”, or “out in front of” anything? No, it does not, and of the ten states with highest death toll from covid, nine are run by democrats. Personally, I don’t want democrats running anything with a track record like that. His mantra seems to be Trump’s incompetent and he can do it better. Like Hillary there’s no proof of that, just the assertion that he could have done a better job. It reminds me of a line from a song in the musical “Oklahoma”, “Anything you can do, I can do better, I can do anything better than you”. This is Biden’s idea of originality, and since he’s not in charge of anything, all he can do is snipe from his basement. Clearly, since the polls are tightening Joe will have to come out and “play”. Let’s see if the media has audacity to ask Biden or even Harris a few hard questions. This I sincerely doubt. With Harris it’s a little bit harder, because the word has already gone out, that if they do ask these questions of her, they will be labeled a racist or a misogynist. Hence, they run the risk of being canceled and losing their jobs.
Oh my, ain’t that a “Great Party” you may be thinking of voting for. Troubling Right! On, that note I’ll end this commentary.
